A Quick Guide To Applying Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions have the potential to make eyes and lashes look bolder, brighter, and more beautiful than ever before. Besides, who wouldn’t love to rock the effortless “rolled out of bed like this” look? Yet eyelash extensions are difficult and almost impossible to apply if you don’t have the experience, training, or knowledge to do so.

If you’re familiar with how to remove lash extensions at home, then you’ll probably know just how complex the lash extension application actually is.

And whether you want to know more about how to apply for eyelash extensions in general, or want to learn the skill yourself, this quick guide will help you to better understand the process.

Lash Extension Application Steps

Step 1: Select Individual Lash Extensions

Now it’s time to choose the lash extensions. Your lash artist will start the process by asking you about your preferences so you can customize your lash set to fit your desires and expectations. You must state whether you’d prefer a more glamorous or natural look.

Based on this, your artist will then work with you to choose an ideal curl strength and length for the extensions. At this stage, your artist might make the decision to use 3 or 4 different extension lengths with longer ones concentrated on the outer eye, and shorter ones on the inner eye.

This will provide the necessary volume to your eye without being too overpowering.

Step 2: Prep The Eye Area

The eye area must be cleansed of germs, oil, and makeup to prepare for the lash extensions. You should turn up to your appointment makeup-free.

Gel under-eye pads should then be applied. These should be positioned over the lower natural lashes, around 3-4 millimeters away from the lower lash line., to protect your eye.

Check to make sure that you can still comfortably close your eyes. Your lash artist will use tape on the lower lashes to keep things secure if need be.

Step 3: Pick-Up Individual Lashes

Your lash artist will spread your chosen lashes out so that they have access to them all. There are particular products designed for this purpose.

At this point, they should also have a dot of glue ready to use.

Using tweezers, your artist will then separate one eyelash at a time. They will dip the end of each extension into the lash glue and apply it to the individual natural lash to achieve the desired look. Usually, it works out that one lash extension is applied per natural lash.

Step 4: Apply The Eyelashes

The extension will be positioned on the natural lash and around 1 mm from the eyelid. Your artist will then attach the individual lash extension to the normal lash.

The lash should be facing upwards and positioned parallel to the other lashes with no visible beads of glue. After all, you don’t want to end up with any eyelashes stuck together!

Your lash technician will repeat and alternate the process until the set is complete on both eyes, and after all-natural lashes have been bonded to the individual lash extensions.

Throughout this stage, you may feel your lash artist using a clean mascara wand to brush through the extensions.

Step 5: Separate The Lashes

None of the eyelash extensions or normal lashes should be stuck together at this point. Your lash artist may use two lash tweezers and wands horizontally as they check to make sure that all of the lashes are separate.

Step 6: Dry The Eyelash Glue

When all lash extensions are bonded, it is now time to start the drying process. This can take anywhere up to 10 minutes so lay back, relax, and bask in the peace.

While waiting for lashes to air dry is common practice, your artist might also use a handheld fan pointed at the extensions to speed up the process of drying.

Step 7: Enjoy Your New Lashes!

Once the lashes are completely dry, it’s time to remove the under-eye gel pads and tape (if it was used.) This process is completely painless, but you will need to be upfront if you’re struggling with eye sensitivity.

They will then brush through your lashes with a spoolie and ask you to open your eyes. If everything is well, then you’re done!

Summary

Knowing how to apply eyelash extensions takes lots of dedication and skill to achieve. You’re working with a lot of chemicals so close to a vital organ, so caution and precision are a must!
